Hurzeler: Ferguson 'an option' after Tzimas injury blow

Fabian Hurzeler has not ruled out recalling Evan Ferguson from his loan at Roma after losing Stefanos Tzimas for the rest of the season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Tzimas, 19, a 20 million summer signing from Nuremburg, is set for surgery after suffering the injury in Brightons 4-3 home defeat to Aston Villa at the start of the month, with Hurzeler not expecting to see the Greece U21 striker again until preseason.

Ferguson slipped down the pecking order at Brighton after injury problems of his own, finishing last season on loan at West Ham before heading to Roma this summer.

Although he scored only one goal in his first 14 appearances for the Italian club, the Republic of Ireland forward grabbed a brace in a 3-0 Europa League win over Celtic on Thursday.

Asked about Ferguson on Friday, Hurzeler said: Evan is a player for us, that is why he will always be an option.

At the moment he is on loan but we follow it, we are pleased with how he performed yesterday. Of course we all follow it, so definitely he might be an option.

Tzimas was just starting to establish himself in the Brighton side, with the Villa game his full league debut after he scored his first league goal for the club in the 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest at the end of November, leaving him with three goals from 12 appearances.

He will have surgery and we have big trust in the doctors and we have big trust in the medical department, Hurzeler said. We are quite convinced that he will be back as quick as possible and even in better shape.

Arteta won't consider Jesus sale in January

Mikel Arteta insists he will not consider selling Gabriel Jesus in the January transfer window following his long-awaited return to fitness with Arsenal.

Jesus impressed from the bench in Arsenal's Champions League win over Club Brugge in midweek in his first appearance since suffering an ACL injury almost a year ago.

He returns to increased competition for places, with Viktor Gyokeres having been added to a striker pool which also includes Kai Havertz and makeshift No 9 Mikel Merino but Arteta says he he has plenty to offer, especially given Arsenal's injury issues.

"No, I don't consider that, especially with the situation we have right now," he said when asked if he would consider a sale.

"I think Gabby has a lot to offer to the team and he has proved that in the first minutes he was available to play.

"He has put so much to be in this position again and now the focus is to be with us."

Asked if Jesus could push for a starting spot, Arteta added: "A player of his quality, a player that has given us so much and comes with the energy he comes with the other day, is a player who has to be pushing and aiming for that, for sure."

'Spurs to try offload Bissouma in January'

Tottenham will push to sell Yves Bissouma in January, according to The Times.

However, the report also adds that Spurs may offer the Mali international a one-year extension if they fail to find a buyer this winter, with his current deal due to expire this summer.

The 29-year-old midfielder is yet to feature under new boss Thomas Frank, last appearing in Spurs' Europa League triumph in May under Ange Postecoglou.

Frank also confirmed last week that the club are carrying out their own investigation, after Bissouma was allegedly filmed inhaling nitrous oxide, a Class C drug.

Bissouma faced disciplinary action earlier this campaign when he was left out of August's UEFA Super Cup squad against Paris Saint-Germain due to lateness.

Could Ferguson return after Tzimas' season-ending injury?

Analysis from Your Site News' Richard Newman from Brighton's press conference:

Its important to stress that Your Site News understands no talks have taken place between Brighton and Roma about ending Evan Fergusons loan but after Fabian Hurzeler confirmed Stefanos Tzimas will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury, it is going to be a topic of conversation as we approach the January window.

Brighton are blessed with plenty of attacking options, but only one fully fit target man in Danny Welbeck, who is enjoying one of the best injury-free spells of his career. If Brighton want to maintain their push for Europe, taking pressure off the former Manchester United and Arsenal forward would likely be a big priority in the window.

Having Kaoru Mitoma back from injury for the first time in two and a half months is a huge boost for Brighton ahead of the trip to Anfield now it will be about trying to rediscover his best form over a busy period of the season.

Slot and Salah set for Friday talks with future in balance

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot will hold talks with Mohamed Salah on Friday, "the outcome of which will determine" if he will feature against Brighton on Saturday.

Knaak extends Man City deal

Manchester City have confirmed that Germany international Rebecca Knaak has signed a contract extension to 2028.

The defender initially joined City in January 2025 and has suffered with multiple injuries throughout the year, but has since become an integral part of Andree Jeglertz's side.

City are top of the Women's Super League, six points ahead of defending champions Chelsea. They play Aston Villa, live on Your Site, on Sunday; kick-off 11.55am.

Knaak said: "It's been a year, I can say that. I'm super happy to be here. I can say it feels like home. I'm very excited to stay here for a little longer.

"The football part, I love playing for City. It's amazing and I've learnt so much, but it's also the culture and environment. The culture is very special, it's hard to find success and the social part, and I've found that here."

Bayern to step up pursuit of Guehi

Latest from Sky Germany:

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl wants to hold talks with Marc Guehi on January 1, according to Sky in Germany.

That is the date the England centre-back is free to speak to foreign clubs, with six months then left on his Crystal Palace contract.

Despite the contract of renewal of Dayot Upamecano remaining Bayern's priority, they also want to sign Guehi on a free transfer next summer.

Your Site News has long reported that Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid are the other clubs interested in signing Guehi in 2026.

Liverpool remain interested in Guehi in January after a late deal to buy him collapsed on Deadline Day in the summer.
